Operation Chowhound was a humanitarian mission over war-torn Europe. In May 1945, as the war draws to a close, the people of the Netherlands suffer from starvation. Operation Chowhound is the cooperative effort to address this issue before peace is declared. The 100th Bomb Group dropped tons of food in conjunction with the British (Operation Manna). These efforts were crucial to the survival of the people of the Netherlands. Dando Collins’ book, Operation Chowhound: The Most Risky, Most Glorious US Bomber Mission of WWII tells the story of the work to create and complete such dangerous but vital operations.
